The first drug of its kind, a breast cancer treatment also given briefly to children for breast tissue growth and early puberty.
The original selective oestrogen receptor modulator, and the one with the growth plate data. Used in paediatrics for pubertal gynaecomastia and for precocious puberty in McCune-Albright syndrome, short term, for the oestrogen effect, not for height.
Risks. Its label carries the strongest class of warning: in women it has caused womb cancers, strokes and clots in the lungs, some fatal. In young animals it also shortened and weakened bones.
