Decoy proteins that soak up signals before they can reach their receptor.

Fusion proteins built from the extracellular part of an activin receptor — ActRIIA for sotatercept, a modified ActRIIB for luspatercept — attached to an antibody Fc. They mop up activins and related ligands before those reach a receptor.

Risks. Sotatercept can thicken the blood and cause bleeding; luspatercept can cause clots and high blood pressure, and is not for children after it caused blood cancers in young rats.
