An experimental thyroid-like compound that was never approved for anything and is now mostly a laboratory tool.
A TRβ-selective thyromimetic with roughly 10-fold lower affinity for human TRα1 than for TRβ1, traced to a single differing residue in the binding pocket. Never approved for anything: developed for dyslipidaemia and stopped after phase 1, with trials in X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy withdrawn before enrolling. Principally a laboratory tool for probing tissue-selective thyroid effects.
Risks. Its one early trial reported none of the side effects of too much thyroid hormone, and it was dropped for lack of money. A related drug was stopped in its last trial when it damaged cartilage in dogs, and it strained the liver in the patients who took it.
