A man-made androgen the body cannot turn into oestrogen, which is why it was tested together with growth hormone.
A synthetic derivative of dihydrotestosterone and a poor substrate for aromatase, so it acts at the androgen receptor without being converted to oestrogen. That is why it was trialled alongside growth hormone rather than against it.
Risks. US regulators pulled it off the market in 2023 over blood-filled cavities in the liver, liver failure, liver tumours and blood fat changes linked to clogged arteries.
