miR-199a*
Cells and tissue onlyNot measured in peopleResearch onlyNucleic acid
One strand of a tiny RNA that turns down a bone-signal relay; it is a research subject, not something anyone takes.
A short non-coding RNA that binds messenger RNA and holds down protein output from it. It responds to BMP2 and directly targets SMAD1, the transducer BMP signals run through. The asterisk marks the strand of the miR-199a duplex that carries this effect; the two strands are not interchangeable. A research route, not a medicine.
Risks. There is nothing to take, so there are no side effects to report; the work is in cells only.
