A long-established diabetes pill, prescribed to children from the age of ten.
An approved diabetes drug that activates AMPK indirectly, prescribed to children from the age of ten for type 2 diabetes. It is the oldest and most widely taken compound in this article by a wide margin.
Risks. Its label carries the strongest class of warning, for a rare build-up of acid in the blood that has killed people, mostly where the kidneys are poor; its common problem is stomach upset.
