Liothyronine

Approved, for something elseMeasured in people, not heightBy mouthHormoneAlso T3, Cytomel
The already-active thyroid hormone in tablet form, which acts in sharp peaks instead of steadily.
The active hormone, so no conversion step, with a short half-life that produces peaks rather than steady levels. Approved for hypothyroidism, for suppressing TSH alongside surgery and radioiodine in thyroid cancer, and as a diagnostic suppression test.
Risks. Its label carries a boxed warning that extra hormone does nothing for someone whose thyroid works, and that larger amounts can be life-threatening.
