An experimental cancer drug that stops NPR2, the receptor CNP works through, being switched off.
An experimental cancer compound, used here as a phosphatase inhibitor. CNP activation of NPR2 requires the receptor to be phosphorylated on multiple serines and threonines, so FGF-induced dephosphorylation lowers cGMP and opposes bone growth; this counteracts that step.
Risks. In its first cancer trial in adults it could strain the kidneys, and about one patient in five had a severe side effect that may have been the drug. Nobody has tested it for growth.
