Fenretinide

In human trialsMeasured in people, not heightBy mouthSmall molecule
An experimental cancer drug in the vitamin A family, never approved anywhere.
A synthetic retinoid with cytotoxic activity against cancer cells. No marketing approval. Phase 1 and phase 2 trials in neuroblastoma and other cancers, as a single agent and in combination, with oral powder and intravenous lipid emulsion formulations developed to raise exposure above what the original oral capsule reached.
Risks. In a trial in children with cancer it pushed up liver blood tests and raised the pressure inside the skull. Two children who took it for years, after another retinoid, had growth plates close early, and it is not approved anywhere.
