Sold only mixed with oestrogen, as a menopause and osteoporosis treatment, where its job is to shield the womb lining from that oestrogen.
A selective oestrogen receptor modulator, available in the US only as the conjugated oestrogens/bazedoxifene combination, where the SERM component protects the endometrium from the oestrogen it is paired with. Indicated for vasomotor symptoms and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Risks. It carries the strongest class of warning for womb cancer, stroke, blood clots and probable dementia in the over-65s.
