A laboratory chemical sold as an Akt blocker. It was the best hit when thousands of compounds were tested for switching cartilage genes on.
A kinase inhibitor sold as an Akt1 inhibitor, and the top hit from a screen of 5,822 compounds against a collagen XI reporter. Its selectivity is poor: in an unbiased panel of 442 kinases, Akt1 is only its eighteenth-tightest target.
Risks. Never given to a person, with no safety data. Mice without its target are smaller, and approved drugs that block the same thing commonly raise blood sugar.
