Tiny bubbles released by stem cells, sold on the claim that they ferry genetic messages into cartilage. Most products sold this way are not actually purified bubbles.
Small vesicles released by mesenchymal stem cells and sold on the claim that they carry microRNA cargo, such as miR-140-5p, into cartilage. The professional societies in the field prefer the term extracellular vesicle, because assigning a particle to a particular origin is extremely difficult and most commercial preparations are concentrated secretome rather than isolated exosomes.
Risks. Not approved anywhere. The FDA has warned about them after people were harmed, and the two main professional bodies say they do not support using them for anything.
