A building block of protein in ordinary food, and the signal the cell's growth sensor reads as a sign there is enough to eat.

An amino acid, already abundant in ordinary dietary protein. The physiological input to the Sestrin2 sensor: it binds Sestrin2 and frees GATOR2, which is how a protein-containing meal reaches mTORC1.

Risks. It is part of everyday food protein. Taken in large amounts it pushed blood ammonia above normal in young men.
