GnRH analogues

Approved, for something elseHeight measured in peopleBy injectionPeptide
Implants and injections that put puberty on hold, licensed for children whose puberty starts far too early.
Depot GnRH agonists — histrelin, leuprolide, triptorelin — given to hold puberty back. Continuous stimulation of the GnRH receptor desensitises it, so a drug that mimics the hormone ends up shutting the axis down rather than driving it. Each is approved for central precocious puberty, from age 2, with the diagnosis established first and under paediatric endocrine supervision.
Risks. They hold back the whole of puberty, not only the growth plates. The label warns of mood changes and aggression, seizures, severe skin reactions, raised pressure inside the skull, and bone density that falls while treatment lasts.
