Approved, for something elseMeasured in people, not heightBy injectionAntibodyAlso Prolia, Xgeva

An injected antibody that removes the signal bone-dissolving cells need in order to exist. It treats thinning bones in adults, and under a second brand name, bone tumours.

Human IgG2 monoclonal antibody to RANKL. It keeps RANKL off RANK, so osteoclasts do not form, function or survive. Approved in two presentations. Prolia treats postmenopausal osteoporosis at high fracture risk, men with osteoporosis and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, and increases bone mass under androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer or adjuvant aromatase inhibitor therapy for breast cancer — an adult in every indication. Xgeva, the oncology presentation, covers giant cell tumour of bone, and skeletal events in myeloma and in bone metastases from solid tumours.

Risks. It carries the strongest kind of label warning there is, for dangerously low blood calcium in people with advanced kidney disease, including those on dialysis. In children the label warns that long bone growth may be impaired and teeth held back from coming through, and the trials in children were stopped early for dangerously high blood calcium that put some of them in hospital.
