Notch
Contact signalling that sets the timing of hypertrophy and the segmenting of the spine, and the vertebral and stature phenotypes when it goes wrong.
Contact-dependent signalling. The ligand sits on one cell and the receptor on its neighbour, so the range is a single cell diameter and the output depends on which neighbour a cell has. NOTCH1 to NOTCH4, with ligands of the Jagged and Delta-like families.
