Non-coding RNA

MicroRNA, long non-coding RNA and circular RNA in the growth plate, sorted by the kind of evidence standing behind each one.

Of the three classes of non-coding RNA, only microRNA reaches the growth plate: mutations in it make mice and people short. Long non-coding RNAs have been deleted in animals that came out normal, and the circular RNA sponge model needs about 10⁵ target sites per cell and gets about 10². miRNAmutations in people and micelncRNAdeleted, no phenotypecircRNAneeds 10⁵ sites, has 10²Three classesThe evidenceGrowth platepeople and mice, or a dishonly miRNA arrives

RNA that is transcribed and not translated. The microRNA evidence rests on germline mutations in mice and in people. Most of the rest is transfection of cultured cells. No RNA-directed agent has been given to a person for height.
