Hedgehog signalling and the PTHrP loop
The feedback loop that decides when a chondrocyte stops dividing and commits to hypertrophy, the cascade that carries the signal, and the drugs aimed at each end of it.
Two signals running in opposite directions across the growth plate set the point at which a chondrocyte stops proliferating and commits to hypertrophy. That point decides how long the proliferative columns are, one of the main determinants of longitudinal growth.
